Weekend Adventures Pt 1!

Oh wow have I had a full weekend so far! Friday was a beautiful day. Our final Spanish class finished at 12:30, and after having lunch with our families, Josh, Mia and I decided to go to check out La Mariscal (aka Gringo Landia). We took a cab and got off right in the center of the main square, where we went to a Latin restaurant for some celebratory beers and a snack of plantians, ropa vieja, rice and beans!

Ecuador's popular beer, claims to be 100 years old! (since 1913 it says on the bottle)

After this we decided to walk around the district. Most of what we found were nightclubs (already starting to open since it was Friday afternoon) and restaurants. We got some dulces and helado of course, and then walked to find Confederate Books. Earlier in the day we had met one of our TESOL instructors, Justin, who told us about this used bookstore he owned in the Mariscal. It has a huge selection. Justin has just bought it a little over 6 months ago from a friend. He returned to Ecuador after living for 3 years in South Korea (TESOL can take you anywhere!)

After these few hours of wondering, we decided La Mariscal really wasn't for us (we prefer El Centro Historico), and took a cab home.

Look for posts about Saturday and Sunday to come!
